Description

The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) is the largest multi-professional regulator in the UK. We are seeking an exceptional Chair to lead the organisation at a pivotal point in its journey. Open to both lay and registrant candidates, this is a rare opportunity to lead a UK-wide patient-centred, adaptable regulator dedicated to protecting the public through evidence-based and proactive regulation.

Regulating more than 360,000 health and care professionals across 15 professions, this is an exciting time to join the HCPC. Our new corporate strategy 2026-2031 sets a clear direction for the years ahead. We are entering a period of significant opportunity and change, which includes regulatory reform within a complex and evolving landscape.

As Chair, you will lead the Council in overseeing HCPC’s strategic direction, ensuring effective governance, while fostering a culture grounded in our values. Working closely with Council members, the Chief Executive and Registrar and the executive team, you will maintain clear accountability between governance and delivery.

Acting as an ambassador for the HCPC, you will help to build trust and credibility with stakeholders across the UK and internationally, while also steering the organisation to deliver on our clear and demonstrable commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion

This role calls for visible leadership, sound judgement, strong political acumen and the ability to command confidence. You must be able to chair effectively in an environment subject to high levels of external scrutiny. You will be a capable strategic thinker, with a sound appreciation of the four-country role of the HCPC as a UK wide regulator.

As well as being an excellent communicator, with the ability to listen, influence and build consensus, you will have the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse and ambitious organisation

The successful candidate will bring substantial board‑level leadership experience and the authority and credibility to chair a complex and high‑profile public organisation. You will be motivated by the opportunity to make a lasting difference to people and communities across the UK.

We are committed to building a Council that reflects the diversity of the public we serve and the professionals we regulate, and we warmly welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and across England, Northern Ireland. Scotland and Wales.
