About our Work
We deliver our statutory responsibilities through three mutually reinforcing areas of activity:
1. Regulation
- Maintaining and publishing the Register and processing registrations and renewals.
- Setting and reviewing professional standards.
- Investigating and determining fitness to practice (FTP) concerns.
- Quality‐assuring education and training programmes in the UK.
2. Learning and insight
- We use data and evidence to improve regulation and inform the wider health and care system.
3. Preventative and upstream regulation
Alongside our fitness to practise work, we work proactively to reduce the risk of harm by:
- Engaging with registrants, employers and students on professional standards;
- Supporting safer, more inclusive professional cultures; and
- Addressing emerging risks before they escalate into fitness to practise concerns.
